Our Mission
At PlayWorks, our mission is to help children in Wilmington, NC grow into confident, compassionate, and resilient teens and then adults.
We know that children communicate, learn, and heal differently than adults. That’s why we use play-based, developmentally appropriate therapy that gives kids space to process emotions, build coping skills, strengthen relationships, and make sense of their experiences in ways that feel natural and engaging.
Through therapy, children develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their emotions while building practical skills for navigating friendships, family relationships, school, change, and life’s inevitable hard moments.
Our Values
PlayWorks is part of Valid Love Therapy Collective PLLC, an inclusive and progressive mental health practice serving the Wilmington, North Carolina community. PlayWorks focuses specifically on therapy for children, teens, and families, while sharing Valid Love’s commitment to safe, affirming, effective mental health care.
We welcome and celebrate LGBTQIA+ families, neurodivergent children, children with disabilities, blended and nontraditional families, and families of all cultures, backgrounds, identities, and beliefs.

Play
We know that play is one of the most natural ways children learn, communicate, and grow. Through play, children can express what they may not yet have words for, build emotional regulation, and practice new ways of solving problems.

We honor every child’s identity, culture, family, and story. We provide therapy that is respectful, affirming, and responsive to children and families of all backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experiences.
Collaboration
We partner with caregivers and schools so that growth can continue beyond the therapy room. Whether you need someone beside you at an IEP meeting or want to brainstorm ways to support your child at home or school, we’re here for you.
